Visit the SEBM eCommunity on Facebook
"We are developing new strategies to keep SEBM members current with society activities. One part of our plan is to have events, newsletters, as well as journal activities (up front material, contents, and 'news and views') posted on the Facebook SEBM eCommunity page. By joining the eCommunity you will automatically get new content sent directly to you as well as be able to send content to be posted so that SEBM members are current with activites from your lab - a way of instantly connecting and being connected. Please plan to view the site - view what's there and suggest new content - and 'join' the SEBM eCommunity."

Inflammatory cues modulate goblet cell products important for intestinal barrier function
In this paper a team of scientists at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign led by Rex Gaskins PhD have demonstrated that both microbial and host inflammatory facts modulate sulfomucin production in a human cell line, LS174T, that models intestinal goblet cells. Dr. Steve Goodman, Editor in Chief of EBM said "Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC), the two primary types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), afflict 0.1-0.5% of individuals in Western countries with approximately 1 million Americans suffering from the disease at a cost of over $2 billion. This impressive study identifies sulfomucins as potential targets for future therapies for chronic intestinal inflammatory disorders".
